As promised, I took pictures of the bookshelves with actual books on them. I'm quite sure I'm going to regret putting the children's books on the shelves though. More likely, I'll regret organizing the paperback books.

Here's pictures of the top part of the shelves. We added the extra shelf to the top. We weren't really sure what to do with it but while we were at Ikea, I saw the vases and flowers and decided I would try to decorate! What a concept. We decided they fit well up on the book shelf since I purchases 5 vases and there were 5 spaces. I'm pretty happy with my first real attempt at decorating.
